Depression seems like a harsh word and it’s something nobody wants to talk about. Nobody wants to admit when they are depressed or going through a low time. Personally, I dislike the word "depression" because I believe it is overused and carries with it an abundance of negative energy. However, it is something we all face and it shouldn't be ignored.
When starting something new it’s human nature to want to see immediate progress. Whether your goal is to lose weight, get better at a sport or increase sales in business we often fail to recognize our slow progress. We want the big bang, the fireworks and the grand finale right away but how can we truly appreciate the end result if we don’t stop to celebrate the steps it took to get us there.
For years I wanted to lose weight. I wanted to look and live like an athlete. I didn’t realize it at the time but I was holding myself back from reaching my goals because I never took the time to embrace the slow progress I was making. Whenever I didn’t see tangible results, I gave up and convinced myself that what I was doing wasn’t working. Then I was back right where I started. Unhappy!
Why do we let the scale control us? The number on the scale should carry no meaning but for most it means everything. It measures our self-confidence, success and achievements. The truth is the scale can only give you a numerical reflection of your relationship with gravity. That’s it. It cannot measure beauty, talent, purpose, life force, strength or love (Steve Maraboli). Once you let go and believe this is true that’s when you will reach new heights that you always dreamed of.
