Staying disciplined depends on many factors but I’m going to narrow it down to the top four things I’ve been the most successful with which are: goals, visualization, motivation and support. These have all helped me stay on track when times get tough.
Consider who you are spending most of your time with. The support system we choose plays a key role in our success. Are the guys pressuring you to go out for steak and beer after work? Is your best friend encouraging you to eat that piece of cake because you deserve it? Be clear to your friends and family about what your goals are and if they really care about you then they will respect the choices you have made. If they continually try and bring you down maybe it’s time you consider avoiding spending time with them. Find people that are encouraging and supportive. Friends will meet you at the gym instead of trying to talk you out of going.
If you find yourself continually falling off the wagon then ask yourself: Is this what I really want? Do I have a clear goal? Am I finding motivation? Am I surrounding myself with positive people?
Set yourself up for success. Write down your goals and share them with someone you care about, pack a healthy lunch because you know it will make you feel great and surround yourself with positive people. Nobody determines your success but yourself. You have the power, go out there, strive for what you want and don’t stop until you reach success.
